Solar Urbana Champaign is back in 2019 with version 4.0! Offered by the City of Urbana, Prairie Rivers Network, and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association, home and business owners throughout Champaign County and Piatt County may participate in this program to help pool their buying power to secure significant discounts that make installing solar more affordable.
Start by attending a Solar Power Hour. Our free information session teaches you the basics of solar, its financial implications for your property, and how the Solar Urbana-Champaign 4.0 program works. Then, get a free, no obligation site assessment from our competitively-selected installer. You have until September 30, 2019 to decide whether to get solar through the program. It’s Fourth of July in Champaign-Urbana, and it’s all things RED, WHITE AND BLUE. What: Champaign County Freedom Celebration
When: Thursday, July 4, starts with the 5K and Kids Run. Kids run is 8:30; 5K is 9:05 a.m. Parade starts at 11:05 a.m. Night entertainment starts at 7 p.m.; fireworks will launch around 9:15 p.m.
Where: Memorial Stadium
How much: Parade is free; fireworks: Admission and parking are free, but donations are requested.
Appropriate for: All ages
Why you should go: The place to be! The Champaign County Freedom Celebration includes a 5K Race, the area’s largest parade, and fireworks at dusk.The evening program, at the area surrounding Memorial Stadium and the State Farm Center (Assembly Hall), will have musical entertainment, food vendors and children’s activities before the fireworks.

What: 4th of July Freedom Fest
When: Thursday, July 4
Where: Lake of the Woods Park, Mahomet
How much: Admission is $2.00 per person, with children five and under free. Military persons with ID get in free. Donations appreciated.
Appropriate for: All ages
Why you should go: Enjoy Fourth of July at Lake of the Woods. Food concessions, family activities, and Music in Motion will start at 3:00 p.m.; and at 9:00 p.m., after a tribute to our service men and women, Mahomet will light up the lake with a spectacular fireworks display set to music. (Rain date is July 5.)
What: Reds, Whites, and the Blues: Summer Concert Series
Where: Allerton Park and Retreat Center, Monticello
When:Friday, July 5, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
How much: Admission is free, but a donation of $5/person or $10/family is suggested, and will be collected at the gate. Concert may be cancelled or postponed due to weather.
Appropriate for: All ages
Why you should go: Continue the Independence Day celebration with a festive evening on the Gate House Lawn at Allerton’s Concert Series. Sip on red and white wines while you sway to the bluesy tunes of Billy Galt & the Blues Deacons (6-7pm) and the James Armstrong Band(7:30-9pm). What: Sparks in the Park
Where: Ervin Park, Tuscola
When: Saturday, July 6, all day
How much: FREE; some events ticketed, food available for sale
Appropriate for: All ages
Why you should go: Extend your Fourth of July celebration! The parade is Saturday at 10 a.m. Fireworks at dusk. New this year, the Ninja Extreme Challenge Course!
What: Hessel Park Concert: King T’z
Where: Hessel Park, Champaign
When: Saturday, July 6, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
How much: FREE
Appropriate for: All ages
Why you should go: Bring the family out the first Saturday of each month this summer at Hessel Park for live local music! This month: King T’z. For more fun at Hessel Park, click here.
What: Moultrie-Douglas County Fair
Where: Located at Jurgens Park in Arthur behind Arthur High School.
When: July 7-13
How much: No gate fees to enter the fair, $5 parking fee. Additional fees for rides and grandstand events.
Appropriate for: All ages
